The history of CSW Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft mbB (CSW) as a boutique law firm specializing in IT and data protection law began in the 1980s with SSW Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater Wirtschaftsprüfer. In the fields of IT law, data protection law, and digitalization, CSW is regarded as a renowned firm with good to very good rankings.

CSW advises clients nationally and internationally in both the private and public sectors, including litigation for public and private entities. Its services cover all areas of IT-related contract law, software and AI development, IT projects, outsourcing and cloud computing (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, AI-aaS), including for financial and insurance service providers, as well as big data and IoT, open source software / open AI models, IT security, e-commerce, digital services, and telecommunications law.

In addition to IT and digitalization matters, CSW also regularly advises in the areas of employment law (collective and individual labor law), copyright and media law, trademark law, corporate and insolvency law, as well as public procurement law.

All attorneys at the firm regularly publish in professional journals and specialist books and give lectures on issues relating to ICT law, data protection law, and public procurement law, including at professional conferences and in-house training sessions.

Professor Schneider is an honorary professor at the University of Munich and, among other roles, editor and co-author of the Handbook of IT Law (5th edition, 2017), editor of ITRB (IT Law Advisor), co-editor of ZD (Journal for Data Protection), and a member of the editorial board of CR (Computer and Law). Ms. Conrad is co-editor of the Handbook of IT and Data Protection Law (4th edition, to be published in 2026), a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the journal ZD, a member of the DAV Legislative Committee for Information Law (German Bar Association), and since 2013 has represented the DAV as a member of the EU Commission’s Expert Group on Cloud Computing Contracts.
